Legenda Christiani and the Begginigs of Political Thinking in Bohemia and Moravia

Abstract:

Práce se snaží zmapovat osudy významného pramen sklonku 10. století, Kristiánovy legendy, a zasadit ji do kontextu dějin středovýchodní Evropy 10. a 11. století.

Abstract:

These Ph.D. Thesis concentrate on Problematic of one of the most important sources to the History of Middle Europe in Early Middle Ages: Legenda Christiani. Vita et passio sancti Wenceslai et Ludmilae, avae eius. Author first wants to demonstrate, how difficult was the way of critical historiography and linguistic to show, that Christians Legend was realy written at the end of the 10th century. Author intends to show these Legend as a part of living history, cultural memory and literary tradition. So first is scetched the picture of middleeuropean early medieval society, than are illustrated the political struggles at the end of the 10th century, and last, of course, is the legend analysed as a part of tadition of latin and old slavonic hagiography. The project ends with the picture of "second live" of the legend in the 11th century, traing to answer the question, if the Legenda Christiani becamme to be a living part of bohemian literary (and political) tradition.
