The influence of cannabidiol (CBD) on reaction time and focus in athletes

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit, zda kanabidiol (CBD) ovlivňuje reakční dobu a pozornost dospělých sportovců. Testovaní byli studenti Katedry tělesné výchovy a sportu na Pedagogické fakultě Univerzity Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem. Měření se celkem zúčastnilo 29 probandů, skupina byla složena jen z mužů ve věku 22,9 ? 2,73 let, s hodnotou BMI 23,61 ? 3,48. Průměrná váha účastníků byla 75,74 ? 13,86 kg. Metodika proběhla podle principů within-subject design a pro výzkum byl zvolen dvojitě slepý experiment. Byly využity testy pro jednoduchou a složitou reakční dobu, pro testovaní pozornosti byl použit Visual Search Task a Stroopův test. Při vyhodnocení výsledků nebyl zjištěn vliv CBD (33,6 mg) na reakční dobu a pozornost u skupiny dospělých sportovců. CBD v této dávce neovlivňuje zmíněné kognitivní funkce.

Abstract:

The main objective of this work is to determine whether cannabidiol (CBD) affects reaction time and attention of adult athletes. The test subjects were students of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the Faculty of Education of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. A total of 29 probands participated in the experiment, the group was composed of only men aged 22.9 ? 2.73 years, with a BMI of 23.61 ? 3.48. The average weight of the participants was 75.74 ? 13.86 kg. The methodology was based on the principles of within-subject design and a double-blind experiment was chosen for the research. Tests for simple and choice reaction time were used, the Visual Search Task and the Stroop test were used for attention testing. When the results were evaluated, there was no effect of CBD (33.6 mg) on reaction time and attention of the group of adult athletes. CBD at this dose does not affect the mentioned cognitive functions.
