Comparative of Transfitions to Democracy in Ghana

Abstract:

Problematika přechodů k demokracii v africkém prostředí není v odborné politologické literatuře dosti prozkoumaným a zpracovaným tématem. Většina afrických států se po vyhlášení nezávislosti snažila nastoupit cestu demokratické konsolidace, přesto v mnoha z nich vznikly režimy nedemokratické. Pro africké státy je z mnoha důvodů složité nastolení demokratického zřízení. Tato práce se zaměří na Ghanu v období po získání nezávislosti. Hlavní metodou bude analýza a komparace snah jednotlivých ghanských režimů nastoupit cestu demokratické tranzice, přičemž zohledníme demografické, ekonomické a politické faktory. Cílem práce je chronologicky rozčlenit jednotlivé vývojové etapy v jednotlivých ghanských republikách, na které budou poté aplikovány teoretické fáze přechodů k demokracii. Práce si také klade za cíl odpovědět na otázku, z jakých příčin došlo k odlišnému politickému vývoji a zjistit, kde a z jakých důvodů byla demokratizace úspěšná.

Abstract:

The issue of transition to democracy in the African continent is not in the scientific political literature fairly processed and explored topic. Although most of the African states tried to implement processes of democratic consolidation after their independence, in many of them undemocratic regimes has grown. Thus, from different reasons is for many of them difficult to settle down a democratic government.This work focuses on Ghana (the former British colony) in the period after the independence. The main method of this work will be analysis and comparison of the efforts of political actors in different periods of democratic transition, while taking into account the demographic, economic and political factors.The aim of this work is to chronologically split into different developmental stages and then theoretical phases of transition to democracy apply on them. The work also aims to answer the questions in what period and from what reasons democratization has been successful or not.
