Transformation of Jacob square in the 20th century. Architecture, public space, reflection in literature and fine art.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá Jakubským náměstím v Brně a jeho proměnami v průběhu dvacátého století. Zkoumá architekturu tohoto prostoru v rámci několika dějinných etap vývoje města, zabývá se národnostní strukturou obyvatel a jejich vzájemnými vztahy. Současně představuje reflexi náměstí v literatuře, výtvarném umění a divadelnictví. Cílem práce je shromáždit informace z těchto jednotlivých sfér do souvislého celku a porovnat vývoj Jakubského náměstí v předešlém století.

Abstract:

The presented bachelor thesis focuses on Jacob Square in Brno and its transformation during the twentieth century. The thesis analyses architecture of the area in several historical epochs as well as nationality composition and their mutual relations. The reflections of the square in literature, art and theater are introduced. The goal of the thesis is to collect data from all particular fields into one logical complex and enable the comparison of the square development in previous century.
