Mimésis in Classical Greek Philosophy

Abstract:

Mimésis, tedy nápodoba v umění, je nejzákladnějším pojmem antické estetiky a teorie umění, která je v tomto textu představena v rámci Platónových dialogů - Ión, Hippias Větší, Gorgias, Obrana Sókrata, Ústava a Faidros a Aristotelovy Poetiky. Umělecká tvorba, především básnická (poésis - tvořit), byla v antickém Řecku považována za něco, co zaručovalo vědění a pravé poznání, proto se stala kritikou mnohých filosofů i básníků samých. Kritika se vztahovala, nejen na její vztah k realitě, ale i na vztah k pravdě, poznání a vědění. Nápodoba z pohledu poznání a jeho validnosti se tak dotýká vědomostí, které by z ní antický občan měl či nemusel získat. Jaké takové poznání je, pokud se o nějakém poznání dá hovořit v rámci tohoto konceptu? Tento koncept je v této práci představen ve spojení s paideiou, výchovou. A to ve vztahu k etice a morálním hodnotám, které by mohly skrze umění ovlivňovat společnost.

Abstract:

Mimésis, imitation through the art, is one of the most basic terms in ancient greek aesthetic and theory of art, which is in this text represented through Plato's dialogues - Ion, Hippias Major, Gorgias, Apology of Socrates, Republic, Phaedrus and Aristotle's Poetics. Artistic creation, mainly poetic creation (poésis - to create), was in ancient Greece taken as something, which guaranteed true knowledge and that was the reason why artistic creation was criticized not only by philosophers but by poets themselves. The criticism criticized not only the way how the art is related to reality but also how is it related to truth and knowledge. If is imitation taken as a source of knowledge what exactly should have been ancient greek youth taught through it? And is this kind of education valid? What is such knowledge if one can speak of knowledge within this concept? This concept is presented in this work in connection with paideia, education. This is in relation to ethics and moral values that could influence society through art.
