Theatre in Olomouc at the end of a quarter millennium of existence

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce Divadlo v Olomouci na konci čtvrt tisíciletí své existence je na základě zjištěných informací potvrdit, nebo popřít fakt, že existence instituce hudebně - dramatického divadla má pozitivní vliv na město Olomouc. V případě potvrzení tohoto faktu by měla iniciovat nejen udržení, ale samotný rozvoj této kulturní instituce. Krajské město Olomouc s více než sto tisíci obyvateli a obrovskou kulturní tradicí se potýká s mnoha nepopulárními úspornými řešeními. Z toho plyne domněnka, že se v době výročí 250 let stálého divadla v Olomouci nepodaří hudebně - dramatické divadlo udržet. Město takového charakteru by nemělo být soustředěno na řešení standardních existenčních problémů natolik, aby zanikla jeho konkurenceschopnost z pohledu měnící se Evropy. Konkurenceschopnost z pohledu například cestovního ruchu, který je stále v Olomouci nedoceněn a kterému by takováto fungující kulturní instituce mohla výrazně prospět.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis "Theatre in Olomouc at the End of a Quarter Millennium of Existence" is to confirm or refute the hypothesis that the existence of the musical - dramatic theater has a positive impact on the city of Olomouc. If confirmed, this fact should be publicised and used to support the current development of this cultural institution. The city of Olomouc, with more than one hundred thousand inhabitants and a great cultural tradition, is confronted with many unpopular cost - saving solutions. It is possible that, even at the time of the anniversary of 250 years of permanent theater in Olomouc, the city may fail to maintain such a theater. A city of that nature should not be concentrating on solving fundamental problems in a way that could damage its competitiveness in a Europe that is changing all the time. Competitiveness should also be judged from the point of view of tourism, for example, which has been neglected in Olomouc, and for which functioning cultural institutions could prove beneficial.
