Contemporary tendencies in understanding the roles and blurring of the boundaries between the artist and the curator

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje současným proměnám ve vztazích nezávislého kurátora a umělce na české scéně. S ohledem na historický vývoj a na základě porovnání se situací ve světě přibližuje danou problematiku z pohledu samotných kurátorů a umělců. Věnuje se rozboru několika základních zdrojů, kterými jsou jak díla teoretická, tak praktické projekty uskutečněné v rámci českého uměleckého prostředí. Cílem práce je osvětlení dnešního stavu a nabídnutí možných východisek, která by mohla dopomoci ke změně v chápání kompetencí a pravomocí umělců i kurátorů a k definování postupů jejich další spolupráce.

Abstract:

The thesis disccusses the topic of the currently undergoing shift of relations between a freelance curator and an artist on Czech scene. Based on comparison with the situation worldwide and with respect to historical development. The issue is described from the point of view of the curators and the artists themselves. The study focuses on several basic resources which include theoretical works just as well as applied projects that were realized in the Czech artistic environment. The aim of this paper is to shed light on current situation and propose a starting point that would facilitate a change in understanding of the competences of artists and curators, and redefining of their further cooperation.
