Facies and microfacies analysis of the Famennian Líšeň Formation at Hády quarries, Brno

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje faciím a mikrofaciím ve famenských vápencích líšeňského souvrství v lomech na vrchu Hády v Brně. Na lomu Hády bylo vybráno pět profilů, které pokrývají vápence líšeňského souvrství od spodního do svrchního famenu. Bylo využito terénních i laboratorních metod petrografického a sedimentologického výzkumu. Přímo v terénu bylo vyčleněno devět facií podle textur a struktur a v pěti výbrusech byly určeny mikrofacie. Na základě srovnání texturních a strukturních znaků zjištěných facií byly interpretovány jejich depoziční mechanismy. Facie vápnitých černých břidlic (F1) a slínovce s hlízami vápenců (F2, F3 a F4) byly určeny jako hemipelagické, facie deskovitých vápenců (F5, F6, F7b a F8) byly interpretovány jako kalciturbidity (distální, mediální, proximální) a vápencové brekcie (F9) a tence deskovité vápence (F7a) byly zařazeny k bouřkovým sedimentům (tempestitům) střední části rampy. Pro zjištěné faciální asociace (FA1 až FA4) bylo interpretováno depoziční prostředí. Změny faciálních asociací ukazují na utopení karbonátové rampy na hranici mezi frasnem a famenem, sedimentační prostředí ve spodním famenu bylo svahové a hlubokomořské, a ukládaly se především hemipelagické facie s vložkami kalciturbiditů. V průběhu famenu došlo k progradaci turbiditního systému, kdy v raném až středním famenu docházelo k sedimentaci v distální části turbiditního systému (T5 – T4), ve středním až pozdním famenu převládala sedimentace distální až mediální části turbiditního systému (T5 – T4) a v pozdním famenu docházelo k usazování proximálních částí turbiditů (T3 – T2).

Abstract:

This thesis is concerning facies and microfacies of the Famennian carbonates of the Líšeň Formation in the Hády quarries, Brno. In the Hády quarries, five sections were selected to thoroughly examine carbonates of the Líšeň Formation from lower to upper Famennian. Both field and laboratory methods of the petrographic and sedimentologic research were used. Nine facies were determined in the field based on textures and structures and microfacies were determined in five thin sections. Depositional mechanisms of the documented facies were interpreted based on the comparison between texture and structure characteristics in the facies. Black calcareous shale facies (F1) and marlstone facies (F2, F3, F4) were interpreted as hemipelagic sediments, limestone facies (F5, F6, F7b and F8) were interpreted as calciturbidites (distal, medial, proximal) and carbonate breccias (F9) and thin-bedded limestones (F7a) were interpreted as storm sediments (tempestites) of the middle part of the carbonate ramp. For the four studied facies associations (FA1 to FA4), depositional environment was interpreted. Changes in the facies associations show that the carbonate ramp was drowned on the Frasnian/Famennian boundary and hemipelagic facies with calciturbidite intercalations were deposited in the carbonate slope environment. Progradation of the turbiditic system occurred through the Famennian. Early to middle Famennian was represented by sedimentation in the distal part of the turbiditic system (T5 – T4), middle to late Famennian sedimentation took place in the distal to medial part of the turbiditic system (T5 – T4) and proximal turbidites were deposited in the late Famennian (T3 – T2).
