Development of the town Louny within the GIS environment

Abstract:

Pomocí dálkového průzkumu Země a metod geografických informačních systémů můžeme sledovat změny v krajině. Hlavním tématem a cílem této diplomové práce je zhodnotit vývoj města Louny v prostředí geografických informačních systémů. V úvodu práce jsou charakterizovány přírodní podmínky v okolí města Louny, pojmy město a krajina či také stručná historie města. Nadále je popsána metodika práce. Poslední část se zabývá výsledky analýz. Nejprve jsou posouzeny výsledky, které vzešly z vektorizace starých map (dostupné v Okresním archívu v Lounech) v programu ArcGIS, a posléze družicové snímky (dostupné na webových stránkách družic Sentinel a Landsat), které jsou klasifikovány v programu QGIS. Součástí práce je webová aplikace Story Maps, skrze kterou je poněkud jiným způsobem prezentován vývoj města Louny. Nadále byla vytvořena geocache, jenž umožní prezentovat změny, které se ve městě udály. Ta je zaměřena na děti, které mohou zábavnou formou tyto změny pozorovat.

Abstract:

The fundamental aim of this thesis is to evaluate the development of the town of Louny in the virtual environment of geographic information system. Landscape changes over time can be observed using Remote sensing and geographic information system. The introduction part aims to describe the environmental conditions around the town of Louny as well as to define the terms "town and "landscape". Furthermore, the brief history of the town is discussed and research methods used are introduced. The final part discusses the results of the analyses. First, the results obtained from vectorization of old maps (available in State District Archive Louny) using the programme ArcGIS are assessed, followed by an assessment of satellite images (available on the Sentinel and Landsat satellite website), which are then classified in the programme QGIS. Second, a web application Story Maps is a part of this thesis as well and it aspires to outline the historical timeline of the town of Louny in an unusual way. Third, a geocache to amuse and educate children audience was created to present the changes that took place in the town of Louny to complement the thesis.
