Adolescent's perception of marital communication and satisfaction of their parents

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na problematiku percepce komunikace a spokojenosti v manželství rodičů očima jejich dětí v adolescentním věku. Teoretická část je rozdělena na dvě kapitoly. V první z nich rozebíráme problematiku manželského vztahu, tématem druhé je pak komunikace v tomto vztahu. V závěru druhé kapitoly referujeme také o tom, jak adolescenti percipují tyto dva fenomény u svých rodičů. Samotná výzkumná část se zabývá tím, jak silnou souvislost vnímají adolescenti mezi komunikací a spokojeností svých rodičů v manželství. Sběr dat byl realizován prostřednictvím kvantitativní metodologie. Respondentům jsme distribuovali baterii čítající tři dotazníky. Prvním z nich byl vstupní dotazník, pomocí něhož jsme získali potřebné demografické údaje, druhým pak dotazník, zjišťující jejich percepci manželské spokojenosti rodičů, a na závěr respondenti vyplňovali také inventář, zjišťující jejich vnímání komunikace rodičů, který byl naší vlastní konstrukce. Výzkumný soubor byl relativně rozsáhlý, čítal 414 respondentů (245 žen, 169 mužů), jimiž byli studenti prvního ročníku bakalářského studia jakéhokoliv oboru i formy studia na několika českých vysokých školách. Výsledky výzkumu prokázaly velmi silnou pozitivní souvislost mezi percepcí komunikace a spokojenosti v manželství rodičů očima adolescentů. Silná kladná asociace byla zjištěna také mezi tím, jak adolescenti vnímají jednotlivé faktory komunikace (otevřenost, atmosféru, vyváženost, způsob, jasnost a neverbální komunikaci) a již zmíněnou spokojenost v manželství rodičů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of communication and marital satisfaction perception through the eyes of their children in adolescence. Theoretical part is divided into two chapters. We discuss the issue of marital relationship in the first one, the topic of the second chapter is communication in this relationship. We refer also about adolescent´s perception of these two phenomena in their parents in the end of it. The research part itself deals with the question how strong connection is perceived by adolescents between communication and marital satisfaction of their parents. Data collection has been carried out via quantitative methodology. We distributed a battery of three questionnaires to the respondents. The first one was an input questionnaire, which we used to obtain the necessary demographic data, the second one was a questionnaire determining their perception of marital satisfaction of parents, and respondents also filled in an inventory to determine their perception of parental communication in the end, which was of our own creation. The research group was relatively large, numbering 414 respondents (245 women, 169 men), who were students of the first year of bachelor's study in any field and form of study at several Czech universities. The research results reveal a very significant positive connection between the perception of communication and marital satisfaction of parents through the eyes of adolescents. A strong positive association was also found in between adolescents perceive individual factors of communication (openness, atmosphere, balance, manner, clarity and non-verbal communication) and the already mentioned satisfaction in the parents' marriage.
