Charles the IV. and cult of saint Wenceslas. (Charles the IV. as follower of saint Wenceslas hagiographical creation of 14th century).

Abstract:

Touto prací se zaměřím nejen na císaře a krále Karla IV., jako pokračovatele svatováclavské legendy, ale půjdu proti proudu času k nejstarším legendám zachovaným, popisující život svatého Václava a svaté Ludmily, jakožto pokrevních předků krále Karla IV. Cílem práce je věnovat se nejstarším pramenům popisujícím život světců, ale také věnovat pozornost císaři a králi, nikoliv z pohledu válečníka, vladaře, ale z pohledu zbožného muže ctícího staré tradice. Zbožnost, odkaz jeho předků, předcházela sběru svatých ostatků a stavbě hradu Karlštejna. V první kapitole bude vysvětlen koncept svátosti a také jak církev nahlížela a dnes nahlíží na zázrak, dále pak bude nastíněn samotný život svatého Václava, svaté Ludmily. Hlavní částí práce bude seznámení se s životem a zbožností císaře a krále Karla IV., jako pokračovatele a původce svatováclavské hagiografické tvorby 14. století. Hlavním přínosem práce je poukázat na osobní život světců - svatého Václava a svaté Ludmily, světců raného středověku a ukázat čtenáři Karla IV. jako muže, který byl velmi ovlivněn teologickým učením svatého Augustina a svatého Tomáše Akvinského. Práce končí ve 14. století a uvádí, proč právě Karel IV. byl pokračovatelem svatováclavské hagiografické tvorby a co jej k tomu vedlo, co mělo zásadní vliv na tom, aby panovník tak časově vytížený napsal další legendu o svatém Václavovi. Co mělo na způsobu psaní a slohu legendy zásadní vliv.

Abstract:

This theme is concentrated not only on the Emperor and the King Charles the IV. as a follower of St.Wenceslas legend, but it is also concentrated on the oldest preserved legends that describe the lives of St.Wenceslas and St.Ludmila as a ancestors of the King Charles IV. The topic of the theme is to pay attention to oldest sources describing the life of saints, but also to pay attention to the Emperor and the King, not in the view of the warrior and souvereign, but also in the view of religious man respecting old traditions. The religion preceded the collecting of saint objects and the construction of the Karlstejn castle as the heritage of the ancestors. There is an explanation of the concepts of sacrament and the view of the church on the topic of the miracle in the first chapter of this theme. After this will come the description of the lives of St.Wenceslas and St.Ludmila. Main part of this theme is getting known the life and religion of the Emperor and the King Charles IV. as a follower and a originator of St.Wenceslas hagiographical creation of the 14th century. The main contribution of the theme is to show the personal lives of the saints - St.Wenceslas and St.Ludmila as the saints of early Middle Ages, then the next contribution is to show Charles the IV. as a man very influenced by teological doctrine of St.Augustin and St.Thomas Aquinius. The theme takes the end in 14th century by explaining why Charles the IV. was the follower of St.Wenceslas hagiographical creation and what was the reason that mades him to write next legend about St.Wenceslas, although he was very busy.
