Natural Gas Diversification in European Union – the Caspian route through Turkey

Anotácia:

This thesis deals with the EU’s natural gas diversification and the EU’s interest in adding Caspian – Azerbaijani, Turkmen and Kazakh - gas supplies to its gas portfolio. In this thesis mixed research is used to answer the added value of the Caspian supplies to EU diversification. The quantitative part of the thesis will use different indices – count-MacArthur, Evenness-Pielou, Herfindahl Hirschman, Shannon-Wiener and the Stirling index - to calculate the added value of Caspian gas supplies. The indices are calculated for different scenarios. The qualitative part will focus on the different issues within the Caspian region and related to transport of the Caspian gas. In the end both parts are combined in order to answer the question of added value of Caspian gas supplies to the EU as complete as possible.
