Skeletal indicators of parturition and parity

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na historický vývoj výzkumu zabývajících se indikátory těhotenství, porodu a parity na reliéfu kostí pánve. V práci je popsáno objevení žlábků a jamek na reliéfu kostí pánve a jejich využití jako indikátorů těhotenství, porodu a parity. Za nejvýznamnější stopy těhotenství a porodu na lidské kostře byly považovány preaurikulární žlábek na kyčelní kosti a jamky na dorzální straně stydké kosti. Původně byla existence indikátorů těhotenství vysvětlována stresem během porodu. Dle současného hlediska je tvorba jizev na pánevní kosti méně patrná, jelikož žlábky a jamky byly nalezeny na pánevních kostech žen bez historie těhotenství a dokonce i u mužů. Za alternativní vysvětlení tvorby jamek je považována obezita, věk nebo degenerativní změny na kostech.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis is aimed at the historical development of research dealing with indicators of pregnancy, parturition and parity on relief of pelvis bones. In the discovery of grooves and pits on relief of pelvis bone is described and their status as indicators of pregnancy, parturition and parity is explained. The most significant traces of pregnancy and parturition on human skeleton were considered preauricular groove on the hip bone and pits on the dorsal side of pubic bone. Originally, the existence of pregnancy indicators were explained by stress during the parturition. From the recent point of view, the formation of scars on pelvic bone is less evident as the grooves and pits were found on pelvic bones of women with no pregnancy history and even males. As the alternative explanation of pits formation are considered obesity, age or degenerative changes in bones.
