Sulfát redukující bakterie se nachází v širokém spektru ekosystémů. Konečným produktem jejich metabolismu, disimilační sulfát redukce, je sulfan. Ten má negativní účinky na člověka a jeho činnost. Může způsobovat zánětlivá onemocnění střeva, korozi betonu a kovů, zvyšuje podíl síry na složení ropy. Abstract:
Sulphate-reducing bacteria are ubiquitous. Final product of their metabolic pathway, dissimilatory sulphate reduction, is hydrogen sulfide. The sulfide is associated with various negative effects on humans and industry. It can cause inflammatory bowel diseases, corrosion of concrete and iron, it also increases sulphur content in oil.
