Digital Competence in the Classroom: The Influence of Lower-secondary School Teachers’ Digital Skills on their Pupils

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá digitální kompetence učitelů druhého stupně základní školy. Hlavní výzkumnou otázkou bylo, jak zlepšování digitální kompetence učitelů druhého stupně základní školy ovlivňuje vzdělávací zkušenosti žáků anglického jazyka; podotázky dále zahrnovaly integraci technologií včetně možných překážek, stejně tak zkoumaly reakce žáků na digitální nástroje. Výzkumný vzorek se skládal z pěti vyučujících druhého stupně základní školy. Během výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že žáci reagovali volněji v hodinách, do kterých byly technologie zařazeny; nicméně, ne vždy žáci reagovali pozitivně a někdy bylo náročné sledovat jejich vzdělávací pokroky.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis investigates the digital competencies of lower-secondary school teachers. The main research question was how enhancing the digital competencies of lower-secondary school teachers affects pupils' learning experience in English classes; sub-questions then discussed technology integration and its barriers, as well as pupils’ responses to the digital tools. The research sample consisted of five teachers with different lengths of experience in education and technology. The findings suggest that pupils participated more freely when digital tools were incorporated; however, pupils did not always respond positively, and sometimes it was difficult to track their learning progress.
