Attitudes of majority in the Czech republic toward migrants in 2002 - 2008. Secondary analysis.

Abstract:

Česká republika se za posledních dvacet let stala oblíbeným cílem imigrantů. Jejich počet se na našem území za tuto dobu zvýšil takřka třináctkrát. Tento nárůst byl zpomalen probíhající ekonomickou krizí, ale i přes to patří k jednomu z nejrychlejších na světě. Jejich příchod může částečně vyrovnat pokles natality a stárnutí České populace. Aby ale byly přistěhovalci pro českou společnost přínosem, je potřeba pro jejich integraci vytvořit vhodné podmínky zahrnující množství legislativních, politických, ekonomických, sociálních a kulturních kroků. Jak se ale s tímto nárůstem vyrovnává česká dosud silně homogenní společnost? Jak se od roku 2002 změnil pohled na ně? Ze sekundární analýzy dat výzkumu European Social Survey z let 2002, 2004 a 2008 je patrné, že česká společnost není příliš nakloněna příchodu nových imigrantů a ani nevěří v jejich přínos pro společnost. V posledním roce výzkumu dokonce narostl počet lidí, kteří by do České republiky nedovolili přijít žádným cizincům pocházejícím z chudých mimoevropských zemí. Jinak se ale neukázalo, že by lidé dávali přednost příchodu cizinců stejného etnika než odlišného etnika nebo přicházejících z mimoevropských chudých zemí. Z výsledků dále vyplývá, že žádný z vybraných faktorů (pohlaví, věk, vzdělání, celkový příjem domácnosti, velikost místa bydliště a levo-pravá orientace) neovlivňuje postoj k přistěhovalcům a ani ochotu přijímat cizince do společnosti

Abstract:

The Czech Republic has become a popular destination for immigrants in the past twenty years. The number of immigrants in this area has increased almost thirteen-times during this period. This growth was slowed-down by ongoing economic crisis, but still the increase is one of the fastest in the world. Immigration may partially balance a decreasing birth-rate and the aging of population in the Czech population. Immigrants need appropriate conditions for their successful integration. These conditions include quantity of legislative, political, economic, social and cultural actions. How does the Czech society, still highly homogenous, copes with it? How has the general view of immigrants changed since 2002? From the secondary data analysis of European Social Survey in 2002, 2004 and 2008 is obvious that the Czech society is not very well-disposed towards the arrival of new immigrants and does not believe in their contribution to the society. During the last year of this research increased the number of people that wouldn't let any foreigners coming from poor countries outside of Europe to come to the Czech Republic. The research did not show any evidence that people differentiate between the arrival of foreigners of the same ethnic group prior to those from different ethnic groups or those coming from poor countries outside of Europe. The results also show that none of the selected factors (gender, age, education, total household income, size of the place of residence and left-right orientation) affect the attitude towards immigrants and even their willingness to accept foreigners into the society.
