Folk religion at the border of magic and legitimate belief in Opatovice homilies and the Largum sero

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá pojetím lidového náboženství z hlediska křesťanských představitelů na území českých zemí v souvislosti s christianizací Slovanů a procesem akulturace. První část práce se věnuje Slovanům a jejich představám o světě. V další části se věnuji christianizaci Slovanů a procesu akulturace a následně analyzuji Opatovického homiliáře a díla Largum sero, kde sleduji praktiky interpretované jako odklon od křesťanství. Jsou to především magické praktiky a jejich nositelé, ale i zvyky charakterizované jako pohanské přežitky. Snažím se tedy o zobrazení způsobu interpretace lidových zvyků a tradic ze strany křesťanské normativní literatury.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the concept of folk religion from the point of view of Christian representatives in the territory of the Czech lands in connection with the Christianization of the Slavs and with the process of acculturation. The first part presents the culture of Slavs and their notions of the world. The next part is dedicated to the Christianization of the Slavs and the process of acculturation and then I analyze the Opatovice homilies and the work Largum sero, focusing on the elements that the authors interpret as departing from official Christianity. These are especially magical practices and their carriers, but also customs characterized as pagan relicts. I trying to show the way of interpreting folk customs and traditions by Christian normative literature.
