The effect of financial income on cigarette and alcohol consumption in Ústí nad Labem

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo prozkoumat vztah mezi finančním příjmem a spotřebou cigaret a alkoholu v Ústí nad Labem. Význam tohoto tématu je založen na faktu, že cigarety a alkohol jsou spotřebovávány velkým podílem populace v mnoha zemích světa, přičemž jejich souvislost s finančními možnostmi lidí je velmi sledovanou otázkou. Výzkum byl realizován pomocí dotazníkového šetření v létě roku 2023, který byl rozšířen o data z let 2019-2021. Vyhodnocení proběhlo formou lineární regresní analýzy, kde závislými proměnnými byla spotřeba cigaret a konzumace alkoholu, nezávislými proměnnými byly socioekonomické a demografické proměnné. Výsledky ukázaly, že existuje statisticky významný vztah mezi finančním příjmem (nepracovním) a spotřebou těchto návykových látek. Tyto poznatky mohou sloužit jako důležitý zdroj informací pro veřejné instituce zaměřené na omezení spotřeby návykových látek.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to investigate the relationship between financial income and cigarette and alcohol consumption in Ústí nad Labem. The significance of this topic is based on the fact that cigarettes and alcohol are consumed by a large proportion of the population in many countries around the world, and their relationship with people's financial capabilities is a much studied issue. The research was carried out using a questionnaire survey in the summer of 2023, which was extended with data from 2019-2021. The evaluation was carried out by linear regression analysis, where the dependent variables were cigarette consumption and alcohol consumption and the independent variables were socioeconomic and demographic variables. The results showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between financial income (non-work) and substance consumption. These findings can serve as an important source of information for public institutions aimed at reducing substance consumption.
