Territorial disputes between Czechoslowakia and Austria in 1918-1920

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou sporů mezi Československem a Rakouskem v letech 1918-1920. Pozornost je věnována problémům vyplývajících ze střetu mezi principem zachování územní jednoty českých historických zemí a právem na sebeurčení německého obyvatelstva. V této souvislosti je pak nastíněna i historie snah o oddělení německých oblastí Čech a historie čtyř německých územních celků, které vznikly na území dnešní České republiky. Důraz je pak kladen na legislativní činnost Německého Rakouska, která se vztahovala k těmto územním celkům. Rigorózní práce se dále věnuje jednání na mírové konferenci 1919, na jejichž základě došlo k určení hranice mezi Československem a Rakouskem. Závěr práce je věnován činnosti rozhraničovací komise a konečnému určení hranic

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the territorial disputes between Czechoslovakia and Austria after the end of first world war (1918-1920).The main interest lies in the conflict between the principle of territorial unity of Czech historical countries and the right of self-determination of German people. In this context, it is then outlined the history of efforts to separate the German areas of Bohemia and history of four German territorial units that originated in what is now the Czech Republic. The emphasis is placed on the legislative activity of German Austria, which was related to the above mentioned German territorial units. The thesis also addresses the negotiations at the Peace Conference of 1919, which was to determine the border between Czechoslovakia and Austria. Lastly there is described the activity of Boundary Commission and final determination of boundaries.
