Electroreception and electrogenesis in aquatic vertebrates.

Abstract:

Tento text pojednává o problematice vnímání a případné tvorbě a zpětném vnímání elektrického pole v rámci skupin vodních obratlovců. Zabývá se tedy skupinami živočichů disponujícími schopnostmi elektrorecepce (pasivní i aktivní) a elektrogeneze. Poskytuje informace o výkonných orgánech elektrorecepce i elektrogeneze. Poměrně podrobně je pospána stavba těchto orgánů a jejich rozdělení na jednotlivé typy, podle toho, u které skupiny živočichů se vyskytují, nebo podle určitých odlišností v jejich činnosti. Práce se zabývá i neurofyziologií elektroreceptivích či elektrogenních orgánů a jejich ontogenetickým vývojem. V textu se nalézají informace o využítí elektrorecepce a elektrogeneze pro komunikaci, kde dochází ke kontaktu jedinců se stejným pohlavím (kompetice) či stejným pohlavím (doba páření, vyhledávání si partnera apod.). Dále se práce zaobírá funkcí obou schopností pro orientování se v okolí, vnímání živých a neživých objektů a jejich rozmístění. Také se zabývá jejich funkcí uplatňované v hlednání a získávání potravy, případně detekci nebezpečí ze strany predátora. V případě elektrogeneze je uveden účel tvorby slabých a silných elektrických výbojů.

Abstract:

This text discusses the issue of perception and possible production and subsequent perception of electric fields in groups of aquatic vertebrates. The work deals with groups of animals that posses abilities of electroreception (passive electroreception as well as active electroreception) and electrogenesis. It gives some information about functional organs of both electroreception and electrogenesis. The structure and organization of those organs is described as well as the division into individual types according their presence at particular groups of animals or according certain differences in their function. The paper is also addresses neurophysiology of both electroreceptive and electric organs and their ontogenic development. Furthermore, there is some information about the use of electroreceptic and electric organs for communication (between the individuals of the same sex or between potential partners during the time of mating). The other functions are discussed, like the ability of orientation in the surroundings, sensing animate or inanimate objects and their location. Then the paper is dealing with the functions of the organs for foraging or detecting a predator. In the case of electrogenesis, there is mentioned the aim of production of weak and strong electric discharges.
