Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá historií královské pošty od jejích počátků až do nedávné minulosti. V první kapitole je práce zaměřena na úplné začátky, kdy můžeme mluvit o poště jako takové. Popisuje způsob, jakým byly listovní zásilky doručovány a kdo jich v té době využíval. O jedněch z prvních zásadních změnách se dočteme v kapitole druhé, kdy v 17.století byla pošta oficiálně prohlášena za "Královskou poštu" a kdy jejích služeb mohla začít využívat také široká veřejnost. Kapitola třetí a čtvrtá rozebírá a spolu s fotografiemi popisuje doručování poštovními kočáry taženými koni, první vlakové zásilky, oficiální uniformy poštovních doručovatelů, popisuje vznik a krátký život první lepící známky a historii světově známé britské poštovní schránky. Hlavními tématy páté kapitoly jsou letecká pošta, přepravování pošty v Londýnském podzemí a pošta v období první a druhé světové války.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the History of the Royal Mail, its origins to the recent past. In the first chapter, the work is focused on complete beginnings, when talking about mail as such. It describes how letters were delivered and who was allowed to use it at that time. The reader learns about one of the first significant changes in the second chapter when in the 17th century the post office was officially declared a "Royal Mail" and the general public could also use its services. The third and fourth chapter discusses the delivery of Post coaches, the first mail trains, the official mail carriers uniforms, describes the origin and short life of the first adhesive stamp, and also includes the long journey of the world-famous British letter boxes. The main topics of the fifth chapter are air mail, the transport of mail in the London Underground and the Post in World War One and Two.
