Use of wood‑based materials for the production of artificial CubeSat satellites in low Earth orbit

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na využívání dřeva a materiálů na bázi dřeva v nových potenciálních odvětvích jako je vesmírné inženýrství, přesněji se jedná o výrobu panelů pro CubeSat satelity. Pomocí provedené literární rešerše bylo shrnuto historické a stávající využívání dřeva a materiálů na bázi dřeva ve vesmírném inženýrství, a současně byla popsána nízká oběžná dráha, působící faktory na nízké oběžné dráze, dřevo, vlastnosti dřeva a materiály na bázi dřeva. Jednotlivé působící faktory na nízké oběžné dráze byly porovnány s vlastnostmi dřeva pomocí citlivostní analýzy. Výsledné hodnoty fyzikálních a mechanických vlastností byly přepočítány podle popsaných působících faktorů na nízké oběžné dráze. Výsledné přetvoření a působící teplotní napětí bylo vypočítáno pomocí nalezených vztahů. Na základě provedené literární rešerše byla vybrána vhodná skupina dřev a z výsledků materiálových indexů byly vybrány vhodné druhy dřeva. Vhodný materiál na bázi dřeva byl vybrán pomocí sledovaných kritérií. Z dosažených výsledků byla navržena potenciální skladba panelu CubeSat satelitu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the use of wood and wood‑based materials in new potential industries such as space engineering, more specifically the production of panels for CubeSat satellites. Using a literature search, the historical and current use of wood and wood‑based materials in space engineering was summarized, while low Earth orbit, factors affecting low Earth orbit, wood, wood properties and wood‑based materials were described. The different acting factors in low orbit were compared with the properties of wood using sensitivity analysis. The resulting values of physical and mechanical properties were recalculated according to the described acting factors in low orbit. The resulting overstrains and applied thermal stresses were calculated using the relationships found. Based on the literature search, a suitable group of woods was selected, and the material index results were used to select suitable wood species. The suitable wood‑based material was selected using the observed criteria. From the results obtained, a potential panel composition of CubeSat satellite was proposed.
