Theatrical performance of “The King's Speech”by the ensemble of the National Theatre Brno

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zkoumá divadelní hru „Králova řeč", která měla premiéru v Mahenově divadle v Brně v roce 2013. Středem jejího zájmu je sledování vztahu představitele hlavní role herce Martina Slámy ke ztělesnění postavy krále Jiřího VI. Bakalářská práce analyzuje psychologický vývoj této postavy a vliv vady řeči na jeho komunikaci s veřejností. Metodologie zahrnuje dostupné archivní materiály, studium dramatu a využívá rovněž poznatky z osobního rozhovoru s hercem ztvárňujícím titulní roli. Specifičnost zpracování daného tématu vyplývá z cenné osobní zkušenosti s divadel-ním prostředím Mahenovy činohry. Samotná hra je uvedena do kontextu širší problematiky identity, královských povinností a lidského údělu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis surveys the theatre play “King´s Speech” that had its premiere in Mahen´s Theatre in Brno in 2013. The core of its interest is to follow a relationship of the leading actor Martin Sláma with a personification of the King George IV charac-ter. The bachelor thesis analyses a psychological development of this character and an influence of his speech impediment on his communication with the public. The methodology contains available archive materials, a study of the drama and it uses observations from a personal interview with the leading actor too. The specifics of the given issue result from precious personal experience with a theatre environment of Mahen´s Ensemble. The play itself is put into context with a wider matter of identi-ty, royal duties and human fate..The bachelor thesis explores the theatrical play "„The King's Speech”," premiered at the Mahen Theatre in 2013, focusing on actor Martin Sláma's relationship with the main role of King George VI. The thesis analyses the psychological development of the character and the impact of the speech impediment on communication with the public. Methodology involves archival materials, a per-sonal interview with the actor, and a study of the drama. The uniqueness of the topic lies in the firsthand experience within the theatrical environment of Mahen Drama. The thesis further delves into broader questions of identity, royal duties, and human destiny.
