Prediction of development and assessment of the investment potential of Bitcoin

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá predikcí budoucího vývoje Bitcoinu a posuzuje jeho investiční potencionál vůči jiným aktivům. Nejdříve je definováno, co jsou peníze a jejich stručná historie. V další části jsou vymezeny základní principy kryptoměn a popsána nejznámější kryptoměna Bitcoin. Následně bylo vybráno zlato a Index S&P 500 pro srovnání investičního potencionálu Bitcoinu a tyto aktiva byla blíže popsána. Dále jsou blíže vysvětleny analýzy, které budou využity pro predikci vývoje Bitcoinu. Dále jsou vysvětleny historicky významné změny hodnoty Bitcoinu a popsány aktuální události s ním spojené. Následně je za pomocí technické, fundamentální a psychologické analýzy zkoumán možný budoucí vývoj ceny Bitcoinu. V další části je na Bitcoin pohlíženo jako na plnohodnotnou měnu a je vysvětleno co Bitcoinu pro to stát se platidlem schází. V závěru práce je srovnán investiční potenciál Bitcoinu se zlatem a Indexem S&P 500 a je vytvořeno investiční doporučení. Z výsledků můžeme pozorovat, že se Bitcoin opět nachází v býčím trhu a jeho cena do budoucna poroste. Bitcoin jako platidlo má mnoho pozitiv, ale stále převyšují jeho negativa a je velmi nepravděpodobné, že se někdy stane plnohodnotnou měnou. Ve srovnání se zlatem a S&P 500 vyšel Bitcoin podle výsledků na základě výnosnosti za poledních 10 let nejlépe. Je ale velmi důležité si uvědomit, že pro začínajícího investora může být jeho volatilita neúnosná a tudíž je důležité držet se dopředu stanovené strategie.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with predicting the future development of Bitcoin and assesses its investment potential compared to other assets. First, it defines what money is and its brief history. The next part outlines the basic principles of cryptocurrencies and describes the most well-known cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. Subsequently, gold and the S&P 500 Index were selected for comparison of Bitcoin's investment potential, and these assets were further described. Further, analyses that will be used for predicting Bitcoin's development are explained in more detail. Historically significant changes in the value of Bitcoin are also explained, along with current events associated with it. Subsequently, possible future price developments of Bitcoin are examined using technical, fundamental, and psychological analysis. Another section treats Bitcoin as a full-fledged currency and explains what Bitcoin lacks to become a fully functional currency. In conclusion, the investment potential of Bitcoin is compared to gold and the S&P 500 Index, and investment recommendations are provided. From the results, it can be observed that Bitcoin is once again in a bull market, and its price will continue to rise in the future. Bitcoin as a payment method has many positives, but its negatives still outweigh them, and it is highly unlikely that it will ever become a fully functional currency. Compared to gold and the S&P 500, Bitcoin performed the best in terms of returns over the past 10 years based on the results. However, it is essential to note that its volatility may be unsustainable for novice investors, so it is crucial to stick to a predetermined strategy.
