The Flavian Amphitheatre, its Origin and Function in Roman Society and its Fate after the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West

Abstract:

V první části práce je nastíněna zábava Řeků a Římanů, čímž na samém počátku bylo hlavně divadlo, a tak je i divadlu věnována část práce. Dozvídáme se o jeho vzniku, vzhledu a funkci hlavně v římské, ale okrajově i řecké společnosti, neboť Římané byli svými sousedy velmi inspirováni a některé zvyky si přivlastnili, případně poupravili. Od divadla se dostáváme k dalším zábavám, jako byly cirky a arény (zde se dozvídáme více o gladiátorech), a odtud k samotnému Flaviovskému amfiteátru. V práci je vykresleno historické pozadí dané doby, část je věnována názvům amfiteátru, jeho vzhledu, slavnostnímu otevření, výstavbě a také jeho osudu po pádu říše. V závěru je ještě amfiteátr zmíněn v kontextu filmů.

Abstract:

In the first part there is outlined the entertainment of Greeks and Romans, which in the very beginning was mostly the theatre, so there is dedicated a part of this work to theatre. We learn something about his origin, appereance and function mainly in Roman, but also marginally in Greek society because the Romans were very inspired by their neighbours and some customs they accepted or modified. From the theatre we get to other sources of entertainment like circuses and arenas (here we learn more about the gladiators) and from here to Flavian Amphitheatre itself. In the work there is a historical background of that time, a part is dedicated to the names of the amfitheatre, to his appereance, inauguration, construction and also to his fate after the fall of the empire. In the end the amfitheatre is mentioned in the context of films.
