Putnam's theory of meaning of natural kind terms and its application in examples

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma paper is to present Putnam's theory of meaning of natural kind terms and to present and evaluate its application in examples supporting the statement, that psychological state of a speaker doesn't determine extension of some terms. First of all, the examples are presented and analyzed. Secondly, Putnam's theory of meaning of natural kind terms is explained. This explanation enables reconstruction of the statements about extension of natural kind terms in the examples. Finally, the selected criticisms of the examples are presented.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je predstavenie Putnamovej teórie významu výrazov pre prírodné druhy a predstavenie a zhodnotenie jej aplikácie v príkladoch podporujúcich tvrdenie, že psychologický stav hovorcu neurčuje extenziu niektorých výrazov. V prvej časti práce sú predstavené príklady a ich analýza. V druhej časti práce je vysvetlená Putnamova teória významu výrazov pre prírodné druhy, ktorá umožňuje rekonštrukciu tvrdení o extenzii výrazov pre prírodné druhy v príkladoch. Nakoniec je podaná vybraná kritika príkladov.
