Protective factors of resilience and coping strategies for policemen

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce s názvem "Protektivní faktory resilience a copingové strategie zvládání u policistů" je identifikovat rysy stylů odolnosti a strategie zvládání a jejich strukturu u pracovníků různých odborů Ministerstva vnitra. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na vymezení pojmu resilience a copingových strategií zvládání v psychologii, psychologický rozbor činnosti strážců zákona, faktory rozvoje odolnosti a strategii zvládání osobnosti, vlivem profesní činnosti na osobnost a odolnost a faktory zvládání pro policisty. Výzkumu se účastnilo celkem 100 respondentů, pro studii byly vybrány dvě skupiny po 50 osobách: skupina 1 - speciální pořádková jednotka a skupina 2 - policisté ve službě. Mezi nimi bylo vybráno 100 mužů ve věku 27 až 34 let s pracovními zkušenostmi od 6 do 11 let. Po testování byla data z testu zpracována a shrnuta do tabulek ukazatelů. Pro studii byly vybrány následující metody: dotazník COPE, dotazník odolnosti S. Maddiho a Lazarův copingový test. V průběhu empirické části práce byly odhaleny rozdíly v míře závažnosti stylů odolnosti a zvládání mezi zaměstnanci různých policejních útvarů. Statistické srovnání podle Studentova T-testu odhalilo větší závažnost hodnot na škálách konfrontace, distancování, sebeovládání, pozitivní reformulace, humoru, emoční sociální podpory, potlačování konkurenčních aktivit ve skupině 1 (speciální pořádková jednotka), ve srovnání se skupinou 2 (policisté ve službě). V procesu plnění svých povinností musí projevit větší sebeovládání, emocionálně se stáhnout ze stresující situace, a dokonce ji vnímat jako druh zkušenosti. Hypotéza, že zaměstnanci různých policejních jednotek mají rozdíly v úrovni závažnosti stylů odolnosti a zvládání, tedy nalezla empirické potvrzení. Dále jsme se snažili v průběhu empirické studie identifikovat rozdíly ve struktuře složek resilience a copingu. V důsledku porovnání dvou faktorových struktur, dvou skupin policistů, byl odhalen faktor s podobnou strukturou "strategií chování v boji proti stresu" ve skupině 1 (speciální pořádková jednotka) a "coping strategie" ve skupině 2 (policisté ve službě). Jsou odhaleny unikátní faktory ve skupině 1 (speciální pořádková jednotka): "zapojení do řešení problému"; "odolnost". Ve skupině 2 (policisté ve službě): "emoční ochrana"; "nedostatek odolnosti a zapojení." Naše hypotéza o rozdílech ve struktuře složek odolnosti a zvládání mezi zaměstnanci různých policejních jednotek tak nalezla empirické potvrzení.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis entitled "Protective factors of resilience and coping strategies for policemen" is to identify the features of resilience styles and coping strategies and their structure in employees of various departments of the Ministry of the Interior. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of the concept of resilience and coping strategies in psychology, psychological analysis of the activities of law enforcement officers, factors of resilience development and personality coping strategy, the influence of professional activity on personality and resilience and coping factors for police officers. A total of 100 respondents participated in the research, and two groups of 50 people were selected for the study: group 1 - special riot unit and group 2 - police officers on duty. Among them, 100 men aged 27 to 34 with work experience from 6 to 11 years were selected. After testing, the test data was processed and summarized into indicator tables. The following methods were selected for the study: the COPE questionnaire, the S. Maddi resistance questionnaire and the Lazar coping test. In the course of the empirical part of the thesis, differences in the degree of severity of styles of resilience and coping between employees of different police departments were revealed. Statistical comparisons according to the Student's T-test revealed a greater severity of values on the scales of confrontation, distancing, self-control, positive reformulation, humor, emotional social support, suppression of competitive activities in group 1 (special riot unit), compared to group 2 (police officers on duty). In the process of performing their duties, they need to show greater self-control, emotionally withdraw from a stressful situation, and even perceive it as a kind of experience. Thus, the hypothesis that employees of different police units have differences in the level of severity of styles of resilience and coping has found empirical confirmation. Furthermore, we tried to identify differences in the structure of resilience and coping components during the empirical study. As a result of comparing two factor structures, two groups of police officers, a factor with a similar structure was revealed "anti-stress strategies" in group 1 (special riot unit) and "coping strategy" in group 2 (police officers on duty). Unique factors in Group 1 (special order unit) are revealed: "involvement in problem solving"; "resilience". In Group 2 (police officers on duty): "emotional protection"; "Lack of resilience and engagement." Our hypothesis about the differences in the structure of resilience and coping components among employees in different police units has thus found empirical confirmation.
