Mixed marriages - marriage between Czech woman and foreigner

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá smíšenými manželstvími mezi ženami Češkami, které uzavřely sňatek s mužem cizincem z jiné členské země Evropské unie a to z kvalitativního hlediska, které je obecně na poli studia smíšených manželství marginálně zastoupeno. Teoretická část diplomové práce stručně pojednává o historii studia příbuzenství v antropologii a o jednom z hlavních témat s ním spojeným, tj. o manželství a dále pak o historii studia smíšených manželství a jejich klasifikaci na jednotlivé typy, tak jak je tomu ve vědecké literatuře. Největší pozornost je věnována tzv. "mezinárodním" manželstvím, neboť jeden z jeho typů je hlavním středem zájmu výzkumné části práce. Jedná se konkrétně o tzv. "bi-national" nebo "European-intra marriage", tedy manželství mezi dvěma příslušníky různých členských států Evropské unie. Na základě rozhovorů s ženami Češkami, které si vzaly za muže cizince z jiné členské země Evropské unie, bylo cílem odhalit podobnosti mezi těmito ženami a manželstvími, vymezit základní charakteristiky spojené s tímto typem smíšených manželství a životem v zahraničí včetně pozitivních a negativních stránek, které tato manželství a život v zahraničí ženám přináší. Pozornost je zaměřena na fenomén tzv. "free movers" (vysokoškolsky vzdělaní nebo jinak kvalifikovaní jedinci, jež uzavřeli smíšené manželství s příslušníkem jiného členského státu EU a jež využívají možnosti volného pohybu napříč EU a možnosti usazení se na jejím libovolném místě), některé aspekty manželství s mužem cizincem jako jsou okolnosti seznámení, rozhodování o místě pro život, svatba, reakce okolí na partnera cizince a život v zahraničí a s tímto životem spojená integrace ženy do cizí společnosti, či některé aspekty manželství, které by mohly vést k problémům, zvláště jedná-li se o manželství smíšená (vnímání času, stravování se, verbální a nonverbální komunikace).Výzkumnou část práce uzavírá shrnutí názorů žen na to jaké přínosy a obohacení jim dává život s mužem cizincem v zahraniční zemi a jaké naopak přináší negativa a obtíže.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with mixed marriages between Czech women and men coming from different member states of the European Union. The issue of mixed marriages is described from qualitative point of view that is, in the area of mixed marriages study, discussed only marginally. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly discusses the history of the study of kinship in anthropology and one of the main topics connected with it, marriage. Then the history of mixed marriages studies is described as well as individual types, as stated in scientific literature, are discussed. It is mainly focused on "international" marriages because the main part of the research deals with one of these marriages, namely "bi-national" or "European-intra marriage" marriages between two members of different member states of the European Union. On the basis of the interviews with Czech women married to men from another member state of the European Union, the main aim is to reveal resemblances between these women, to define basic characteristics connected with this particular type of mixed marriages and life abroad, including advantages and disadvantages arising from all of it. This graduate thesis provides the insight into mixed marriages and uses the perspective of the women married to foreigners. In this case, the fundamental feature of these marriages is that they are "European-intra marriage" the marriages between specific group of well educated or work high-qualified people using the advantages of the European Union and supporting the idea of European integration by forming multicultural families.
