Opposition in non-democracies in contemporary sub-saharan Africa

Abstract:

Cílem předložené diplomové práce je analýza opozičních aktérů v neopatrimoniálních nedemokratických režimech v Rovníkové Guineji, Burkině Faso a Gabonu a empirické testování Hlaváčkovy teorie opozice v nedemokratických režimech v prostředí afrického areálu. Komparací výstupů jednotlivých případových studií práce zodpoví otázky o charakteru, strategiích a cílech nedemokratických režimů a jejich oponentů a ověří typologické schopnosti Hlaváčkovy teorie. Neopatrimonialismus je použit jako zastřešující koncept, který vysvětluje sdílenou politickou kulturu a osvětluje výběr případových studií.

Abstract:

The thesis aims to make the analysis of opposition actors in neopatrimonial non-democratic regimes in Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso and Gabon and empirically test the validity of the theory of opposition in non-democratic regimes by P. Hlaváček in African areal. By comparing outcomes of all three case studies the thesis is to reveal common character, goals and strategies of both the non-democratic regime and its opponents, thus it is to verify typological abilities of Hlavaček’s theory. Neopatrimonialism is used as an umbrella concept explaining the shared political culture and justifying the selection of case studies.
