Psychopathology of Female Characters in Bref Séjour Chez Les Vivants by Marie Darrieussecq

Abstract:

The topic of this Bachelor´s thesis is psychopathology of female characters in the novel Bref séjour chez les vivants by Marie Darrieussecq. The characters represent one family whose consciousness has been disturbed by death of three-year-old Pierre who drowned in the stream of sea. The thesis analyses his death as the trigger of psychological problems of the heroines and deals with the subsequent influence on the psychology of the characters. Further aspects which endorse the pathological conditions of the heroines are developed. They deal mainly with family, travelling, identity and language. The changes in behavior and acting of the heroines which are described in the final part of the thesis are the result of these influences.

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je psychopatologie ženských postav v románu Bref séjour chez les vivants od Marie Darrieussecq. Postavy tvoří rodinu, jejíž vědomí bylo narušeno smrtí tříletého Pierra, který se utopil v mořském proudu. Práce analyzuje tuto smrt jako spouštěč psychických problémů hrdinek, a zabývá se jeho následným vlivem na psychologii postav. Důležitými prvky románu a celé práce jsou smrt a vodní živel, které se neustále promítají do myšlenek postav. Nejsou opomenuty ani další aspekty, které patologické stavy u hrdinek podporují, a které se týkají zejména rodiny, cestování, identity a jazyka. Důsledkem těchto vlivů jsou změny v chování a jednání hrdinek, které jsou popsány v poslední části práce.
