The impact of the coronavirus crisis on the rate of inflation in the Czech republic

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat vývoj inflace v důsledku propukající pandemie nákazy COVID-19 v letech 2020-2022. V rámci analýzy jsou rovněž analyzována období předcházející pandemii a období bezprostředně po skončení pandemie, tedy roky 2018-2023. Následně je práce také zaměřena na rozdíly dopadu mezi jednotlivými ekonomickými subjekty. V rámci provedené komparační analýzy je možné pozorovat reprezentanty spotřebního koše, které mají největší vliv na zvyšování míry inflace. Podstatou je seznámení se s příčinami vedoucí k zvyšování spotřebitelských cen zmiňovaných reprezentantů, tj. potraviny, bydlení a doprava. Pomocí analýzy je zajištěna prognóza potencionálně vyvíjející se míry inflace v následujících obdobích. Následným uplatněním kvantitativního výzkumu jsou analyzována data získána primárně metodou porovnání, jež jsou porovnávána z analýzy s daty prognózy inflačních očekávání Českou národní bankou.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis is to examine the development of inflation during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak from 2020-2022. Additionally, the analysis also investigate the periods preceding and following the pandemic, i.e. the years 2018-2023. The study also focuses on examing the differential impact of the pandemic on various economic entities. Through a comparative analysis, the study aims to identify the consumer basket representatives that have had the most significant influence on the rise in the inflation rate. The prupose is to become familiar with the causes leading to the increase in consumer prices of the mentioned representatives, i.e. food, housing and transport. Moreover, the analysis provides a forecast of potentially evolving inflation rates in the following periods. Subsequently, the quantitative research utilizes a comparison method to analyze the data obtained, which are compared with inflation expectations forecasted by the Czech National Bank.
