The role of Ethics in the field of Fundraising of Art Museums

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá otázkou, jaká je role etiky v oblasti fundraisingu muzeí a galerií. Jedná se o téma aktuální a rezonující, které pomalu ale jistě proniká ze zahraničí i do prostředí České republiky. V teoretické části je vymezena základní terminologie od nejobecnější roviny etiky, přes její vztahy s příbuznými vědními obory, až po etiku na úrovni profesí a následně konkrétních podniků s ohledem na potenciální etická dilemata a jejich řešení. Druhým teoretickým východiskem je financování muzeí a galerií ze soukromých zdrojů, konkrétně prostřednictvím fundraisingu. Dále je pozornost zaměřena na etiku ve fundraisingu – jako zásadní východisko pro etická muzea 21. století. Praktickou část tvoří výzkumné šetření, které zodpovídá stanovené výzkumné otázky a podává obraz o vztahu etiky a fundraisingu a o existenci univerzálních etických kritérií při přijímání financí ze soukromých zdrojů. Poznatky z výzkumu a teoretické části slouží jako nástroj pro formulaci univerzálních zásad etického fundraisingu pro tuzemská veřejná muzea umění a galerie. Práce využívá v dostupných tištěných i elektronických zdrojů, zejména zahraničních a dat získaných výzkumným šetřením.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the question of the role of ethics in the field of fundraising in art museums and galleries. This topic is resonating abroad and starting to be important also in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part defines the basic terminology from the most general level of ethics, through its relations with related disciplines, to ethics at the level of professions and subsequently specific companies with regard to potential ethical dilemmas and their solutions. The second theoretical part is dedicated to financing of art museums by private sources, specifically though fundraising. Furthermore, attention is focused on ethical fundraising – as a fundamental starting point for ethical museums of the 21st century. The practical part consists of research survey, which answers the established research questions and gives a picture of the relationship between ethics and fundraising and the existence of universal ethical criteria in receiving funding from private sources. Research findings and the theoretical part serve as a key to the formulation of universal principles of ethical fundraising for public art museums in the Czech Republic. This thesis uses available printed and internet sources, especially foreign and information obtained by research.
