Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zlatou érou a hard-boiled detektivní fikcí, detektivy a způsoby vyšetřování. V první části se zabývá postupným vývojem policejních složek a podává základní historický přehled o policii jako instituci od jejích počátků zhruba od 10. století do počátku století 20. Stručně mapuje vývoj ve Francii, Anglii a Americe - dnešní USA. Ve druhé části se zabývá historií a základním vývojem detektivního románu do roku 1940. Počátky nachází v kriminálních biografiích z počátku 16. století a vývoj mapuje až k Danielovi Defoovi, který je pokládán za otce románu. Zabývá se také E. A. Poem, Ch. Dickensem a A. C. Doylem, kteří byli ovlivnění nově vznikající policejní institucí a byli fascinováni zločinem, o kterém píší ve svých knihách. Také uvádí položení základů detektivní fikce a představuje modely “Golden Age” a “hard-boiled” detektivní fikce. Třetí a čtvrtá část se zabývá typickými znaky Golden Age a hard-boiled detektivní fikce a tyto znaky demonstruje na příkladech. Představuje slavné detektivy a jejich způsoby řešení případu a porovnává oba styly detektivní fikce a ukazuje jejich propastné rozdíly. Třetí a čtvrtá část také obsahuje analýzu vybraných děl. Závěrečná část odpovídá na otázku oblíbenosti detektivního románu shrnutím hlavních bodů.

Abstract:

This dissertation deals with Golden Age and Hard-boiled detective fiction, detectives and modes of detection in detective fiction. The first part deals with the gradual development of the police force and gives a basic historical overview of the police as an institution from its beginnings, roughly from the turn of the 10th century until the start of the 20th century, briefly mapping its development in France, England and America - (today the USA). The second part deals with the history and basic development of the detective novel up until 1940. It starts with criminal biographies from the early 16th century then maps the evolution to Daniel Defoe, reputed progenitor of the novel. E. A. Poe, Ch. Dickens and A. C. Doyle are also linked to, being influenced as they were by the newly instituted police force and fascinated by the crimes they were writing about. The laying of the foundations of crime fiction is covered and the Golden Age and the Hard-boiled model are introduced. The third and fourth parts deal with the features typical to the Golden Age and hard-boiled detective fiction and they demonstrate the specific markers of particular examples. Famous detectives and their methods of detection are introduced, comparing both styles of detection and discussing their great differences. The third and fourth parts contain analyses of selected works. The closing section gives answers to the question of the popularity of crime fiction with a summarization of the main points giving a general overview of the major differences within the genre.
