Application of Network Analysis in R

Abstract:

Analýza sítí je metoda pro zkoumání vztahů a interakcí mezi propojenými entitami. Cílem předložené bakalářské práce je poskytnout stručný úvod do problematiky analýzy sítí se zaměřením na její realizaci v prostředí R. V teoretické části jsou představeny základní koncepty analýzy sítí včetně vybraných metrik a modelů sítí. Praktická část obsahuje tutoriál k realizaci analýzy sítí v jazyce R (zvláště pak s využitím knihovny igraph) a tři případové studie aplikující získané znalosti na datech z Twitteru, Wikipedie a IS VaVaI (RIV). V případě dat z Twitteru jde o ukázku analýzy sledování uživatelů v krátkém časovém úseku dle vybraného slova ve tweetech. V druhém případě jde o ukázku analýzy provozu na německé a ruské Wikipedii v březnu 2020, tj. v období pandemie covidu-19. V posledním případě je lehce představena dostupnost dat o spoluautorství tvůrců domácích v České republice dle rejstříku informací o výsledcích (se zaměřením na výsledky publikační) a v návaznosti na to je naznačen záměr připravované větší studie.

Abstract:

Network analysis is a method for examining relationships and interactions between connected entities. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a brief introduction to network analysis with a focus on its implementation in R. The theoretical part introduces basic concepts of network analysis including selected metrics and network models. The practical part contains a tutorial for conducting network analysis in R (specifically using the igraph library) and three case studies applying the acquired knowledge to Twitter, Wikipedia and IS VaVaI (RIV) data. In the case of Twitter data, it demonstrates an analysis of user following behavior over a short time period based on selected keyword in tweets. The second case shows an analysis of traffic on German and Russian Wikipedia in March 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the last case, the availability of data on co-authorship of domestic creators of research outputs in the Czech Republic according to the Register of Information on Research Results (with a focus on publication results) is briefly introduced, and based on that, the intent of an upcoming larger study is outlined.
