Magnetoreception of insects - mechanism of reception dependent on light.

Abstract:

Předkládaná dizertační práce je shrnutím poznatků o citlivosti živočichů na magnetické pole. Ve své úvodní části se zabývá možnými mechanismy magnetorecepce, identifikací a lokalizací magnetoreceptoru. Klade důraz především na studium hmyzu a srovnává experimentální výsledky studia hmyzu s dalšími živočišnými druhy, které byly podrobeny testování. Výsledky této práce byly získány v rámci výzkumu Laboratoře neuroetologie a smyslové fyziologie hmyzu a ukazují možnost, že magnetorecepce hmyzu je závislá na světle. Předpokládaným mechanismem, který hmyz ke své magnetické orientaci využívá, je mechanismus radikálových párů. Podobné výsledky ukazují i další laboratoře a jejich behaviorální testy na obratlovcích. Dizertační práce shrnuje informace o vlivu světla na mechanismus magnetorecepce, o užití vlivu různých vlnových délek a intenzit světla při testování magnetorecepce živočichů. Věnuje se také specifickému chování živočichů zvanému magnetický alignment a vlivům slabých radiofrekvenčních polí, které mohou na magnetickou citlivost působit.

Abstract:

Submitted dissertation work is a summary of current knowledge about sensitivity of animals on magnetic field. In its introductory part, it deals with possible mechanism of magnetoreception, identification and localization of magnetoreceptor. It´s focused on insect study and compare experimental results of insect studies with anothers animal species which have been tested. Results of of this work were obtained within the research of Laboratory of neuroethology and sensory physiology of insect and they show posibility that magnetoreception of insect depends on the light. Proposed mechanism reception principle which is used by insects for magnetic orientation is mechanism of a radical pair mechanism. Similar results of behavioral tests were shown also by other laboratories on vertebrates. Dissertation work summarizes information about the light influence on the mechanism of magnetoreception, about the impact of various wavelengths and intensities of light during testing of animal magnetoreception. It also discusses the magnetic alignment of animals and the effects of weak radiofrequency fileds which can modulate magnetic sensitivity.
