Analysis of bonding strength of the LSL specimen using different types of wood

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá experimentálním stanovením smykové pevnosti v tahu prvku LSL slepeného MUF lepidlem při různých podmínkách, jako je druh dřeva a čas nanášení lepidla. Následuje obrazová analýza pokrytí vzorku lepidlem a analýza procentuálního porušení vzorku. Součástí práce je rovněž literární rešerše na toto téma se zaměřením na popis LSL a jeho vlastností, faktory ovlivňující jeho vlastnosti a nejčastěji používaná lepidla pro výrobu LSL a jejich vlastnosti. V další části práce se objevuje detailní popis prováděných zkoušek s návrhy na zlepšení pro příští testování. Na základě stanovených cílů a postupů bylo zjištěno, že smyková pevnost v tahu je vyšší u vzorků vyrobených z topolu než u vzorků vyrobených ze smrku. Rovněž bylo zjištěno, že smyková pevnost v tahu stoupá společně s rostoucím časem nanášení lepidla, přičemž optimální doba nanášení činí 40 sekund. Obrazová analýza pokrytí vzorku lepidlem ukázala, že se stoupajícím časem nanášení roste nejen množství naneseného lepidla, ale také velikost kapek. Při analýze procentuálního porušení vzorku bylo zjištěno, že množství lepidla má na tento faktor vliv pouze u dřeva topolu, kde vzorky s nánosem lepidla po 20 sekundách byly poškozeny téměř výlučně v lepené spáře a vzorky s nánosem lepidla po 40 sekundách byly poškozeny průměrně z více než 30 % ve dřevě, zatímco u dřeva smrku byly vzorky poškozeny výlučně ve dřevě, a to v obou případech času nanášení.

Abstract:

This work deals with the experimental determination of the tensile shear strength of the LSL element bonded with MUF adhesive under different conditions, such as wood type and adhesive application time. This is followed by an image analysis of the adhesive coverage of the sample and an analysis of the percentage failure of the sample. The work also includes a literature research on this topic with a focus on the description of LSL and its properties, factors affecting its properties and the most commonly used adhesives for the production of LSL and their properties. Another part of the thesis is a detailed description of the performed tests with suggestions for improvement for the next testing. Based on the stated objectives and procedures, it was found that the tensile shear strength is higher for samples made from poplar than for samples made from spruce. The tensile shear strength was also found to increase with increasing adhesive application time, with an optimum application time of 40 seconds. Image analysis of the adhesive coverage of the sample showed that with increasing application time, not only the amount of adhesive applied but also the size of the drops increases. When analyzing the percentage failure of the sample, it was found that the amount of glue has an effect on this factor only for poplar wood, where the samples with adhesive application after 20 seconds were damaged almost exclusively in the glued joint, and the samples with adhesive application after 40 seconds were damaged on average by more than 30 % in the wood, while in spruce wood the samples were damaged exclusively in the wood, in both cases of application time.
