Influence of L-carnitine, taurine and betaine supplementation on quality of boar ejaculate in summer season

Abstract:

Vzhledem ke globálnímu oteplování a zintenzivňování chovu hospodářských zvířat jsou otázky spojené s tepelným stresem stále aktuálnější. Jelikož jsou prasata všobecně velmi náchylná vůči vysokým teplotám a zejména jejich výkyvům, je nutné se zabývat eliminací dopadů tepelného stresu kvůli zachování jejich dobré užitkovosti. U kanců je kladen důraz zejména na produkci kvalitního spermatu vhodného pro inseminaci. Disertační práce se zabývá problematikou přídavku antioxidantů do krmné směsi plemenných kanců a jeho vlivu na kvalitu vyprodukovaného ejakulátu. V prvním pokusu byl zkrmován L-karnitin v dávce 500 mg/kg krmné směsi, v druhém pokusu byl zkrmován taurin v dávce 15 g/kanec/den a ve třetím pokusu byl zkrmován betain dvěma skupinám kanců, a to v dávkách 3,5 g/kanec/den a 7 g/kanec/den. Sledovány byly kvalitativní a kvantitativní parametry ejakulátu kanců plemene Duroc. K pozitivním účinkům bylo dosaženo v parametrech motility spermií, procenta morfologicky abnormálních spermií a také koncentrace daných antioxidantů v nativním ejakulátu.

Abstract:

Due to a global warming and the intensification of livestock breeding, issues related to heat stress are becoming more and more relevant. Since pigs are generally very susceptible to high temperatures and especially their fluctuations, it is necessary to deal with the elimination of the effects of heat stress in order to maintain their good productivity. In boars, the emphasis is mainly on the production of high-quality sperm suitable for insemination. The dissertation thesis deals with the issue of the addition of antioxidants to the feed mixture of breeding boars and its effect on the quality of the produced ejaculate. In the first experiment, L-carnitine was fed at a dose of 500 mg/kg of the feed mixture, in the second experiment, taurine was fed at a dose of 15 g/boar/day, and in the third experiment, betaine was fed to two groups of boars, in doses of 3.5 g /boar/day and 7 g/boar/day. The qualitative and quantitative parameters of the ejaculate of Duroc boars were monitored. Positive effects were achieved in the parameters of sperm motility, the percentage of morphologically abnormal sperm, as well as the concentration of given antioxidants in the native ejaculate.
