Food Waste in the Context of Post-harvest Losses in sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou plýtvání potravin v kontextu posklizňových ztrát ve vybraných zemích subsaharské Afriky. Práce v teoretické části vymezuje pojem plýtvání potravinami a jeho rozdělení na potravinový odpad a ztrátu, specifikuje plýtvání v kontextu posklizňových ztrát v rozvojových zemích a plýtvání v rámci jednotlivých fázi potravinového řetězce a zmiňuje důsledky plýtvání. Praktická část je založena na analýze posklizňových ztrát vybraných komodit v Mali, Senegalu a Togu a následné komparaci těchto ztrát s ekonomickým vývojem daných zemí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the problem of food waste in the context of post-harvest losses in selected sub-Saharan African countries. In the theoretical part, thesis defines the koncept of food waste and food loss,in the context of post-harvest losses in developing countries. It specifies food waste within specific phases of the food chain, and mentions the consequences of food waste. The practical part is based on the analysis of post-harvest losses of selected agricultural commodities in Mali, Senegal and Togo and the consecutive comparison of these losses with the economic development of selected countries.
