Psychological phenomena influencing perception of business rules in business practice

Abstract:

Systémy pro správu byznys pravidel umožňují definovat a nasadit řadu prostředků pro komplexní rozhodování, které je využíváno v řadě podnikových informačních systémů. Byznys pravidla zahrnují politiky, omezení a podmíněné příkazy, které jsou prostředky taktického řízení organizací. Moderní přístupy umožňují automatické učení byznys pravidel z dat. Výsledky automatického učení nicméně nejsou vždy dobře srozumitelné expertům -- podnikovým analytikům. Diplomová práce se zabývá možnostmi, jak tyto modely učinit srozumitelnějšími, a to primárně pomocí konceptu sémantické koherence.Dle studované literatury byla stanovena řada výzkumných otázek, na jejichž základě byla navržena sada experimentů. Ty byly provedeny pomocí dotazníkového šetření a následně statisticky vyhodnoceny. Pro účely návrhu experimentů byl naprogramován softwarový nástroj, který umožňuje snadno vytvářet modely v rámci sémantické koherence. Výsledky analýzy jsou podrobněji diskutovány v závěru práce.

Abstract:

Systems for business rules management enable defining and employing a variety of resources used for complex decision making, which is used in many enterprise IT systems. Business rules include politics, constraints and conditional commands, which can be considered a way of managing businesses on a tactical level. Modern approaches enable automatic learning of business rules from data. Results of such learning are however not always understandable for experts -- business analysts. This Master's thesis explores options of making these models more comprehensible, mainly through the concept of semantic coherence.A series of research questions has been defined based on the studied literature. These questions were used to propose a number of experiments that were conducted via survey research. Results of these experiments were then statistically evaluated. A software tool for easier model handling with regards to semantic coherence has been developed for the purposes of these experiments. Research results are further discussed in the final part of the thesis.
