Ideal Newspaper? Comparative study of attitudes to nowadays czech national newspapers in the view of two target groups - students and seniors, and factors affecting the rate of penetration of print newspapers between these two target groups

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá, jaké faktory ovlivňují míru čtenosti českých celoplošných placených deníků u dvou vybraných skupin obyvatelstva: seniorů a studentů. Vychází z teorie užití a uspokojení a studií, které vznikly v euroamerické oblasti a které se snaží vysvětlit odliv čtenářů tištěných deníků. V naší práci se snažíme na dvou věkově rozdílných skupinách poukázat na faktory a bariéry, které brání vyšší penetraci tištěných deníků mezi vybrané skupiny obyvatelstva. Metodou našeho výzkumu bylo dotazníkové šetření a focus group, při kterém jsme testovali hypotézy vyplývající z již zpracovaných studií mediálních teoretiků: mezi jinými Edmunda Laufa, Karin Raeymaeckers, Leo Bogarta, Wayna Wanty nebo Cathy Cobb-Walgrennové. Práce odhaluje, jaké jsou postoje dvou generací vůči tištěnému deníku jako typu média a vůči konkrétním českým celoplošným placeným deníkům.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with factors affecting the readability of czech print paid newspapers in two selected groups: seniors and students. This thesis draws from many studies and researches conducted in Western Europe or USA which were concerned with the same issue: increasing number of people who don’t read print newspapers. In this thesis we try to point out the main barriers and factors affecting the rate of penetration of print newspaper between these two groups. We used questionnaires and focus group method that tested hypothesis based on studies of many media researchers: among all Edmund Lauf, Karin Raeymaeckers, Leo Bogart, Wayna Wanta or Cathy Cobb-Walgrenn. This thesis illustrates attitudes of two generations to print newspapers as a media type and to specific czech national paid newspaper titles.
