Giovanni Battista Alouisi - life and work.

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce je věnována osobnosti moravského skladatele italského původu Giovanniho Battisty Alouisiho (kolem 1600–1665). Přináší jednak nové životopisné podrobnosti včetně data úmrtí, jednak komplexní zhodnocení jeho díla. První kapitola práce, následující po stručném úvodu a přehledu dosavadního bádání, je věnována souhrnu životních osudů skladatele. Pro jeho italské období jsou hlavním pramenem titulní listy a dedikace tištěných sbírek, pro období po příchodu do českých zemí máme k dispozici také archivní materiály, zejména jeho dopisy nově identifikované v Moravském zemském archivu. Po kapitole věnované životu skladatele následuje šest kapitol věnovaných jednotlivým sbírkám, které Alouisi vydal v letech 1628–1640 u benátského nototiskaře Bartholomea Magniho (Coelestis Parnasus op. 1, 1628, Celeste Palco op. 2, 1628, Harmonicum Coelum op. 3, 1628, Contextus Musicarum Proportionum op. 4, 1637, Corona Stellarum Duodecim op. 5, 1637, Vellus Aureum op. 6, 1640). Každá kapitola obsahuje přepis titulního listu a dedikace a jejich analýzu ve vztahu k životopisným údajům o autorovi. Následuje stručný rozbor jednotlivých kusů obsažených ve sbírce. Značná pozornost je věnována textům skladeb, jednotlivé oddíly jsou vždy uvozeny jeho přepisem, překladem a rozborem liturgického využití. Hudební analýza si všímá formálního řešení, tonálně-modálního začlenění a výrazných momentů každé skladby, to vše ve vztahu ke zhudebňovanému textu. V textu práce je průběžně odkazováno na notové přílohy. Přílohou práce je edice všech dosud identifikovaných dopisů G. B. Alouisiho a spartace kompletního skladatelského odkazu, který zahrnuje šest tištěných sbírek vydaných v letech 1628–1640.

Abstract:

The present dissertation thesis is dedicated to the personality of the Moravian composer of Italian origin Giovanni Battista Alouisi (about 1600 – 1665). On the one hand it presents new details from his life including the date of his death, on the other hand offers a complex evaluation of his work.The first chapter of the thesis, preceded by a brief introduction and an outline of the current research, is devoted to the composer’s life. For his Italian period the main source of information is to be found in the front pages and dedications of the printed collections. For the period following his arrival to the Czech lands we can rely also on archive materials, namely his letters newly identified in the Moravian archive. The chapter devoted to the composer´s life is followed by six chapters which analyse six collections published between the years 1628 – 1640 with Bartolomeo Magni in Venice (Coelestis Parnasus op. 1, 1628, Celeste Palco op. 2, 1628, Harmonicum Coelum op. 3, 1628, Contextus Musicarum Proportionum op. 4, 1637, Corona Stellarum Duodecim op. 5, 1637, Vellus Aureum op. 6, 1640). Each chapter consists of a transcript of the front page and dedication and their analysis in relation to the data of the author´s life. Then a brief analysis of individual pieces of each collection follows. Close attention is paid to the text of individual compositions, individual sections are always introduced with a transcription, translation and analysis of its liturgic use. The music analysis emphasises their formal arrangement, tonal-modal structuring and conspicuous moments of each composition, all of these being analysed in relation with the text set to music. In the text of the thesis, the author continuously refers to music sheets in the Appendix. Transcriptions of the correspondence and scores of the complete Alovisi´s legacy represented by six printed collections published between the years 1628 – 1640 can be found in the Appendix of the thesis.
