Jewish and Christian Influences on the Quranic Imagination of the Last Judgement

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce byla komparace událostí a osob, které bezprostředně souvisejí s koránskou představou Posledního soudu, tedy těch, které ho předznamenávají a následují po něm, s pojetím těchto osob a událostí v křesťanské a židovské tradici. V práci se úvodu zabývám politickými a náboženskými funkcemi, které byli v beduínské společnosti a sociálnímu stavu na Arabském poloostrově před příchodem Islámu. Potom se věnuji vlivu křesťanství na poloostrově před vystoupením Proroka Muhammada, a důvodům, které způsobovali jeho pronikání. Vymezuji křesťanské skupiny které tam působily a zabývám se jejich postavením ve společnosti. Stejně tak se věnuji i vlivu judaismu v oné době na tamní společnost a rozšiřování jejich náboženství. Potom se má práce zaměřuje na eschatologické představy beduínských společností na severu poloostrova a také na představy obyvatel jižní části Arabského poloostrova. Následně se věnuji změně v eschatologickém myšlení, která přišla na Arabský poloostrov po vystoupení proroka Muhammada. Sleduji vznik a vývoj víry v zmrtvýchvstání v pramenech Tóry, v židovských pseudepigrafach až k islámskému Koránu. Dále se věnuji komparaci apokalyptických znamení, které předznamenávají Poslední soud ve spisech křesťanství, judaismu a islámu. Stejně tak apokalyptickým kmenům Jádžúdž a Mádžúdž ,které na konci času vtrhnou do světa a jejich předobrazům které měli ve starších Abrahámovských náboženstvích. V komparaci jsem pokračoval rolí postav Ježíše a jeho protivníků s osobami či silami, které jejich roli odpovídají v křesťanství a judaismu. Stejně tak bylo nutno porovnat průběh samotného posledního soudu ve zmiňovaných třech náboženských systémech a také jeho vnímání posluchači. Srovnával jsem také události, které mají následovat po soudu. Představu ráje a pekla, jejich popis a obyvatele těchto míst v náboženských textech. Na závěr jsem shrnul získané poznatky a v jednotlivých oblastech tohoto tématu popsal vliv oněch dvou monoteistických náboženských systémů na formování koránských představ

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis is a comparison of events and persons immediately connected with the Koran’s vision of the Last Judgement, i.e., those which foretell it and follow it, with meaning of these persons and events in Christian and Jewish tradition. In the introduction of this thesis, I deal with political and religious functions in a society of Bedouins and with social situation on the Arab Peninsula before the arrival of Islam. Then I focus on the influence of Christianity on the peninsula, before the appearance of the Prophet Muhammad, and on the reasons of its penetration. I define Christian groups that were active there and I deal with their situation in a society. Equally, I deal with the influence of Judaism in those days on the local society and dissemination of their religion. My thesis is then focused on eschatological visions of communities of Bedouins at the north of the peninsula and on visions of inhabitants of the south part of the Arab Peninsula. Consequently, I focus on a change in eschatological thinking that came to the Arab Peninsula after the appearance of the Prophet Muhammad. I monitor establishment and development of belief in resurrection in sources of the Torah, in Jewish pseudepigraphas, up to Islamic Koran. Furthermore, I focus on comparison of apocalyptical signs, foretelling the Last Judgement in Christian, Jewish and Islam writings, as well as the apocalyptical tribes of Jadzudz and Madzudz which will invade into the world at the end of times, and their archetypes in older Abrahamic religions. The comparison continues with the roles of Jesus and his adversaries with persons or forces corresponding to their role in Christianity and Judaism. At the same time, it was necessary to compare the process of the Last Judgment itself in the three mentioned religious systems, as well as its perception by listeners. I have compared also the events that should follow the Judgement - the conception of paradise and hell, their description and inhabitants of these places in religious writings. In conclusion, I have summarised the findings described the influence of these two monotheistic religious systems on forming the Koran’s visions.
