Aplication of Lucian's work How to write a history on 15th book of History by Ammianus Marcellinus

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the problematics of writing historiographic works. Its core is formed by teoretical treatise How to write a history, the only one of its kind in the ancient world, written by Lucian of Samosata. Lucian states with his satiric language the most frequent mistakes and gives also some advice for writing the historic work. Ammianus Marcellinus, the author of Rerum gestarum libri XXXI, is supposed to be one of the most important historians of the ancient times. The analysis of his work focuses on whether Ammianus followed the advice and instructions given by Lucian in his treatise.

Abstract:

Práca sa venuje problematike písania historiografických diel. Jedným z analyzovaných diel je teoretický spis, jedniný svojho druhu v antickom svete, Ako písať dejiny (Πῶς δεῖ ἱστορίαν συγγράφειν), ktorého autor je Lúkiános zo Samosat. Lúkiános vo svojom diele satirickým slovníkom uvádza najčastiejšie chyby a rady pri písaní historického diela. Ammianus Marcellinus, autor diela Rerum gestarum libri XXXI, je považovaný za jedného z najvýznamnejších historiografov antickej doby. Práve jeho dielo je v tejto práci podrobené skúmaniu, či sa Ammianus držal rád a návodov, ktoré podáva Lúkiános vo svojom spise.
