Passive investing and ETF S&P 500

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá jednou z možných forem realizace strategie pasivního investování, a to ETF, které jsou zaměřené na index S&P 500. Samotná problematika k řešení je komparace jednotlivých ETF, která jsou na trhu dostupná – především se práce zabývá ETF, které jsou dostupné široké veřejnosti od renomovaných společností, jako například The Vanguard Group, Inc., BlackRock, Inc. Práce se zaměřuje také na protichůdnou strategii investování, tedy aktivní investování, které je blíže popsáno v teoretické části. Cílem této práce je především komparace dostupných ETF, která splňují podmínku strategie pasivního investování, jejich komparace především spočívá v posouzení výkonnosti, podmínek nákupu, prodeje a držení těchto investičních instrumentů. Další důležitý prvek práce je porovnání pasivně spravovaných ETF s aktivně spravovanými ETF a také posouzení vhodnosti doby pro výběr daného instrumentu. Cílem práce je také přiblížení problematiky retailovému investorovi, který na základě prezentovaných dat může učinit kvalifikované rozhodnutí pro výběr ideálního investičního nástroje.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is presenting one of possible form of passive investment strategy, namely ETFs, that are focused on the S&P500 index. The problem to be solved is comparison of individual ETFs that are available on the market, predominantly ETFs from renewed companies like The Vanguard Group Inc., BlackRock Inc. The thesis is also focused on opposite strategy of investing – active investing strategy, which is described in detail in the theoretical part. The aim of this thesis is primarily to compare the available ETFs that meet the condition of passive investment strategy, the thesis mainly compares performance, conditions of purchase the ETF, conditions of selling and holding that ETF in a portfolio. Another important element of the work is to compare passively managed ETFs with actively managed ETFs, as well as an assessment appropriateness of the time for choosing a given instrument. The goal of the thesis is also to bring the issue closer to the retail investor, who can make a qualified decision for choosing the ideal investment instrument based on the data presented.
