When It’s Damn Good: A Morphosyntactic Analysis of DAMN and a Corpus-Based Study of Its Semantic Prosody
Abstract:
Účelem práce je analýza sprostého slova sakra jakožto lingvistického fenoménu, který tvoří neobvyklé a nepravidelné morfosyntaktické konstrukce. Práce se pokouší klasifikovat slovo sakra z hlediska slovních druhů a dále pomocí korpusové studie zkoumá sémantickou prozodii v konstrukcích, kde sakra funguje jako adverbiální intenzifikátor následujícího adjektiva.
Abstract:
The aim of this work is to analyse swear word damn as a linguistic phenomenon which forms unusual and irregular morphosyntactic constructions. The work attempts to classify the word damn in terms of possible word classes, and furthermore, through a corpus-based study, investigates the semantic prosody in structures where damn functions as an adverbial intensifier succeeded by an adjective.
