The Scent of Anthropology: Ethnography of Perfume

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem parfémů. Zaměřuje se na parfém jako prvek kultury - vjakém smyslu se jedná o sociální konstrukt a jakými způsoby jsou parfémy vkonkrétní kultuře prezentovány. Součástí práce je výzkum v podobě polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s lidmi pracujících voboru a s lidmi, co se ve světě parfémů pohybují jako spotřebitelé. Práce je dále založena na terénním výzkumu, uskutečněným mezi zákazníky ve vybrané parfumerii. Vpráci jsou využity koncepty především antropologie smyslů se zaměřením na čich a vůně v podobě parfémů.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of perfume. It focuses on perfume as an element of culture - in what sense it is a social construct and in what ways is perfume presented in a particular culture. The work includes research in the form of semi-structured interviews with people working in the industry and with people who are consumers in the world of perfume. The thesis is also based on field research conducted among customers in a selected perfumery. The thesis uses concepts primarily from the anthropology of the senses, focusing on the sense of smell and scent in the form of perfume.
