English Verbs Followed by an <i>-ing</i> Form and an Infinitive
Abstract:
Tato práce analyzuje katenativní slovesa, po kterých následuje sloveso v infinitivu nebo gerundiu. Cílem analýzy je dokázat rozdíly ve významu sloves “begin” a ”start” na sémantické úrovni. Práce se skládá z teoretického přehledu a z analýzy, která je založena na materiálech z Korpusu současné americké angličtiny a Britského národního korpusu. Výsledky jsou zhrnuty v závěru.
Abstract:
The thesis deals with catenative verbs followed by an infinitive or an –ing form. The main objective of the analysis is to identify differences between “begin” and “start” on a semantic level. The thesis consists of theoretical background and analysis of material from the Corpus of the Contemporary American English and the British National Corpus. Findings are summarized in the conclusion.
