Abstract:

Disertační práce se zaměřuje na vztah ochrany biodiverzity a lesnického managementu ve střední Evropě, primárně pak v České republice. Práce přináší aktuální shrnutí a analýzu příčin ohrožení lesní biodiverzity, zásadních faktorů podporujících lesní biodiverzitu, a z toho plynoucích východisek pro lesnický i ochranářský management. Analýza byla realizována pomocí literární rešerše (review), dotazníkového šetření mezi českými biology a případovou studií zaměřenou na nároky zákonem zvláště chráněných druhů rostlin České republiky. Dále práce předkládá dosud chybějící metodický podklad pro aplikaci ekologického lesnictví v České republice, včetně podrobného návrhu opatření na konkrétním lesním majetku. Práce svými výsledky potvrdila, že dosavadní lesní hospodaření v České republice ohrožuje biologickou rozmanitost lesů, neboť generuje homogenní lesní prostředí a eliminuje důležité habitaty. Pozornost by měla být upřena zejména na ukončení pěstování holosečně těžených monokultur stanovištně nepůvodních dřevin. Je nutné se věnovat obnově pestré skladby domácích druhů dřevin, ochraně habitatu starých lesů a jejich struktur (zejména starých stromů a mrtvého dřeva), jakož i obnově prostředí světlého lesa. Zásadní je strukturní diverzita a komplexnost lesního prostředí, přítomnost škály sukcesních stadií, zejména raných a pozdních, a kontinuita habitatů v čase a prostoru. Tyto aspekty úzce souvisejí s přírodními disturbancemi, jejichž význam je pro diverzitu lesních ekosystémů klíčový. Ve vyšších nadmořských výškách je zásadním nástrojem ochrany lesní biodiverzity velkoplošná bezzásahovost. Význam mají ale i maloplošné rezervace a mikrorezervace napříč krajinou. Z hlediska recentních velkoplošných narušení kulturních porostů ve střední Evropě suchem, vichřicemi a podkorním hmyzem je v zájmu obnovy ekosystémů a ochrany biodiverzity potřebné na vhodných místech zajistit částečnou retenci souší a dalšího biologického dědictví těchto narušení a využít přirozené sukcese při obnově narušených ploch. V nížinách a lužních lesích vyžaduje obnova světlých lesů aplikaci historických forem hospodaření (nízké a střední lesy, lesní pastva, ořez stromů, na vhodných místech řízené vypalování). Součástí světlých lesů musí být staré a habitatové stromy. Středoevropské lesnické hospodaření by zvláště ve středních a vyšších polohách mělo integrovat principy ekologického lesnictví, zesíleně v lesích s vyšším významem mimoprodukčních funkcí a v lesích ve vlastnictví státu. Ekologické lesnictví by zde mělo při těžbě imitovat efekty smíšeného režimu přírodních disturbancí nízké a střední severity, s kontinuální retencí struktur charakteristických pro staré lesy. Konvenční středoevropské přírodě blízké lesnictví nezohledňuje dostatečně ochranu biodiverzity, zvláště pokud je zúženo na plošně aplikovaný výběrný hospodářský způsob. Vykazuje nicméně perspektivu pro další rozvíjení a obohacení o nástroje ekologického lesnictví, tak aby účinně mitigovalo vlivy klimatické změny a úbytek biodiverzity.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the relationship between biodiversity protection and forestry management in Central Europe, primarily in the Czech Republic. The work provides an up-to-date summary and analysis of the causes of threats to forest biodiversity, the key factors supporting forest biodiversity, and the resulting starting points for forestry and conservation management. The analysis was carried out using a review, a questionnaire survey among Czech biologists and a case study focused on the requirements of plant species that have special legal protection in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the work presents the still missing methodological basis for the application of ecological forestry in the Czech Republic, including a detailed proposal of measures on specific forest property. The results of the work confirmed that the current forest management in the Czech Republic threatens the forest biodiversity, as it generates a homogeneous forest environment and eliminates important habitats. Particular attention should be paid to ending the management of even-aged monocultures and clear-cutting. It is necessary to focus on the restoration of a diverse native tree species composition, the protection of old-growth forests habitats and their structures (especially old trees and dead wood), as well as the restoration of the open forest environment. The structural diversity and complexity of the forest environment, the presence of a range of successive stages, especially early and late, and the continuity of habitats in time and space are crucial. These aspects are closely linked to natural disturbances, which play a key role for the forest ecosystem diversity. At higher altitudes, large-scale non-intervention is an essential tool for protecting forest biodiversity. However, small reserves and micro-reserves across the landscape are also important. In view of recent large-scale disturbances of cultural stands in Central Europe by drought, storms and bark beetles, it is important to ensure partial retention of a biological legacies of these disturbances and to respect a natural succession to restore disturbed areas. In the lowlands and floodplain forests, the restoration of open forests requires the application of historical forms of management (coppice and coppice-with-standards, forest grazing, pollarding, controlled burning in suitable places). Open forests must include old and habitat trees. Central European forest management should integrate the principles of ecological forestry, especially in the middle and higher elevations, predominantly in forests with a higher importance of non-productive functions and in state-owned forests. The logging should emulate the effects of a mixed regime of low and medium severity natural disturbances, with continuous retention of structures characteristic of old-growth forests. Conventional Central European close-to-nature forestry does not take sufficient account of biodiversity protection, especially if it is narrowed down to a widely applied selection system. However, it shows the prospect of further development and enrichment with ecological forestry tools in order to effectively mitigate the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.
