Hedge Funds: The analysis of rentability of selected investment strategies

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice kolektivního investování, konkrétně hedgeovým fondům, analýzou používaných investičních strategií a jejich porovnání s tržním benchmarkem v podobě akciového indexu S&P 500. V první části se zabývám definováním hedgeového fondu, popsáním důležitých historických milníků, regulací a právnímu vymezení v USA a České republice. V závěru teoretické části se věnuji investičním strategiím používaných hedgeovými fondy, s přesahem do analytické části, kde porovnávám tři vybrané investiční strategie z hlediska výnosnosti. Poté porovnávám výnosnost těchto strategií s akciovým indexem S&P 500 na 24-leté časové řadě a počínání strategií a akciového indexu během krizí v roce 2001 a 2008.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis describes collective investments, especially the hedge fund industry, analyse investment strategies and compare them with market benchmark index S&P 500. In the first part I am concerned with defining hedge fund, describing important historical events, regulation and legal definition in the USA and the Czech Republic. At the end I describe investment strategies used by hedge funds with overlap into analytic part, where I compare three investment strategies according to rentability. Then I compare these strategies with the stock index S&P 500 on a 24-year horizon and results of investment strategies and S&P 500 during financial crisis in 2001 and 2008.
