Abstract:

Předmětem této bakalářské práce je budova baptisteria San Giovanni in Fonte v Neapoli. Datace této stavby se pohybuje v rozmezí mezi 4. a 6. stoletím. Cílem následující studie je kromě reflexe předchozí bibliografie i představení architektonické roviny stavby doplněné o popis a ikonografickou interpretaci dochované mozaikové výzdoby. Tu však s přihlédnutím k osobě (potenciálního) zakladatele baptisteria a událostem na přelomu 4. a 5. století lze vnímat i jako odraz tehdejších společenských poměrů, značně přesahujících rozměr "běžné" náboženské praxe.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is San Giovanni in Fonte – a paleochristian baptistery in Naples. The dating of this building ranges between the 4th and the 6th century. The goal of this study is apart from a reflection of a previous research also presenting an architectonical dimension of the baptistery enhanced by a description and an iconographical interpretation of a preserved mosaic decoration. However, when we take into account also a (possible) founder of the baptistery and historical events at the turn of the 4th and 5th centuries, the mosaics also work as a “reflection” of this period, considerably surpassing an ordinary religious practice.
